What's the easiest way to use pressure points in a fight? Can you use them to defend yourself? Will you really be able to control your attacker, and if so, how?
The Easiest Way to Use Pressure Points
If you are thinking of learning a magical point on the body and just pressing it, to end a fight, then think again! It's just not going to happen.
Yes, nerve points can be used to control an attacker during an altercation, but if you aren't a martial-arts expert, you may not get a chance "to press."
In a real fight, you have to be able to get to the point, in order to use it. In other words, you can't press the point, if you can't get past your aggressor's guard.
Nerve Strike Points
The easiest way to use a pressure point in a fight, is to consider it as a precise target Strike the target.
Hit the soft spot.
Look, in a self defense situation, you'll be hitting for openings; you'll punch and kick towards vulnerable areas, right?
Well, think of your pressure points as "more sensitive spots" within your normal targets. Aim for the bulls eye, so to speak, but know that any solid hit that is close could produce a "good effect." (You could hurt your attacker.)
Just Like a Wrist Lock
I have my students study wrist locks and joint locks. They practice the locks in class, figuring out how to get past an opponent's guard in order to lock.
Even though they practice in class, in a real fight, I advise them to forget about the locks ... for the most parts.
Maybe keep the thought in the back of your mind, but don't try for the wrist lock. Let it happen, if "it" wants to. You worry about hitting and kicking. Then, if at some point, you find your arms and hands in just the perfect position, go ahead and effect a lock.
The same is true with pressure points: Don't spend all of your time concentrating on the one spot (unless you know the principle of Atemi Waza). Instead, defend yourself the best way that you are able.
If, at some point in your fight you see an opening to a nerve area, go ahead and take the shot. Don't rely on the hit; if it fails, you'll already be on to the next technique.
Use your pressure points for strikes, right now. If at some point you perfect joint locks, then go ahead and start including the pressure points with those.
