This is the story of my life as a professional builder and surveyor. It is called ‘Half True’ because all the best stories we tell our children or friends down the pub contain a few misrepresentations, invented dialogue and a rather partisan view of the role we played in the story. Well, why not? Whoever tells the story is entitled to make themselves the hero.
This book begins when I left school in 1968 and it describes life as a professional builder and surveyor before computers and mobile phones changed everything. I don’t tell you how to build or survey anything but I have described some of the characters that I worked with and a few of the jobs that didn’t, in spite of my best efforts, go right. I hope you enjoy it.
